Belgrade Food

Back to something light... not so light acctualy pretty fat haha:

Classic breakfast, burek with a yogurt!

On the road to fast food!
Sunce (= Sun in Serbian) the closest place form Jeremie's place to get some "food")

Classic after party food the Pljeskavica! The best burgers i v eaten in my life (not his one :)

Serbian food is also served in other places than on the street but considering a Pljeskavica is cheaper than 200g of cheese in a supermarket... I also went eating in Kafanas, like "Auberge" in French or "Gasthaus" in German, don't know the word in English. There they mostly serve grilled meat with various salads, fries or beans (mmm delicious beans). There I tried some other specialties like Muckalica: various grilled meat with grilled peperonies, ognions and served in cooking juice... mmmm MEAT! Or the hudge Karađorđevac Snitzel, a big, rolled piece of meat with cheese inside and fried like a snitzel!
Bon Appetit!

Belgrade bombs

Now for a more serious subject... Not to hard after yesterdays lazy workers. Belgrade kept two bomb sites from the NATO bombings not so long ago (1999). I heard many things about those bombings, namely that the European public opinion was manipulated into agreeing with those attacks. And I must say after meeting many Serbs, i find it shocking how the media presented the Serbs as barbarian. I was young don't remember much, certainly not facts but i sure remember associating them with "Bad People" or "Evil"... Anyway, this is not a place of debate i will not state my opignon, birds are singing outside right now and i have other things more interesting to do. I will simply state my opignon witch is that these bombings could have been avoided and that you should never believe what tv tells you (ok gotta trough someting more into that allready burning fire in your head, hehe, do you believe Ingrid Betancourt was simply liberated like they say, picked up by a helicopter in the jungle?? That easy? Maybe? maybe not? Winners write history and we will maybe never know).

Life goes on...

Not so long ago, the people i met lived trough something real harsh and impossible to imagine (seeing a bomb site for real is already something VERY different from seeing it on tv, so i cant imagine what it is to have bombs dropping next to you and your home town going up in flames). And it amazes me how nice, oppen minded, respectful toward foreigners, welcoming and helpfull these very same people are. Thank you! :)

Belgrade Workers

Yea it is not a myth... For a job you need 3 people for in Switzerland, you need between 6 and 10 here ;) People seem to like chilling during their work, or they will all participate in making plans on how to operate, how to proceed, what to do. Here are a couple examples:

A hudge hole, dont know why but one guy is inside, one operates the crane and those 6 watch, comment or give orders. They were also the 3 you cant see on the picture, drinking a beer on a bench in the shade :)

Early morning, if you look closely, you will see 2 guys shoveling and 2 guys resting on their shovle :) Ok i wasnt sleeping yet, i m no example and should not allow to comment :)

However, I should also say that they get the job done and are paid miserably for this...

Belgrade Streets

Well, they are always crowded at any time of day and night, stores are always open, there are trees on many of them, except for the main roads, there is little traffic (i though so , others don't agree...) and most of the time a lot of space. Of course driving is a little chaotic :) The People there don't avoid eye contact, are mostly smiling and helpful.

Blondie, lost in chaos :)

Trams, all over the place, very shaky when you site in them,
Switzerland, check out the writing on the tram :)

Long pavement, long legs ;)

Chaos :)

Fascists and The Police

Monday was a day full of tourism, walking, chilling on the beach. Monday night was crazy once again, going to a Boat (not a Splav, a real boat this time) playing old rock, grunge and punk hits like the Clash, Ramones, Nirvana, the Offspring (self estem yeeaaaa!). It was great listening all these songs again, remembered me of sooo much. As i was alone, Jeremie having to work in the morning, I met lots of people. Some musicians, some tv show producers (the serbian Survivor mouahahahah), brothers and sisters, rock fans and a real drunk lost guy.
At the end of the show, the real drunk guy calls me as i m leaving. I join him and his "Friends" he just met and was obviously anoying... I chat a bit, the usual thing, were are you from, what do you do here and where do you go? Then a red haired girl joins us, she is bit drunk too and says "ooo I looooove French" was this very stupid, slightly sleezy voice ... then "I would like to know how to say F#@! me in frensh"... mm ok i see. The next sentence i remember was "I hate black people....". And i m realy convinced your a lost and stupid B*#@? Anyway i decide to wast a bit of my tiome, enjoy the sunrise and try to get some commen sence back in that girls head...
We wlak avay, the drunk guy follows on his bike and an other wierd lost guy is following us in the distance. I have to say here that i never felt uncomfortable in Belgrade and that in this situation i probably would have in many other cities... We manage to get ride of those 2 lost guys, go for a coffee and i keep trying to educate that girl... in vain...
The conversation goes something like this...
- I hate blacks
- Why?
- I dont know, they smell.
- You smell to, like sweat, smoke and its not exactly pleasent.
- O i dont know, i m a skinhead you know.
- So that is why you hate black people?
- Yes!
Very frustrating discussion... I got to learn that she hates Black, Gay, Jewish, Old, Asian, Gypsy and Arabic people... that she will suicide when she is 60, that she has only violent movies (not necessarily bad ones though...) etc...

Next day, waking up is difficult little sleep :) Tonight we are going to see the Police concert with Jeremie! Real good concert though a bit short. My favorita are still cant stand loosing you and so lonely :) Here are a few pictures :
